Marcio Leyser, MD, MSc, PhD

Clinical Professor, Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics
Biography

I am interested in exploring genetically-based protective and risk factors for neurodevelopmental conditions in children exposed to infectious agents in utero or born with congenital infectious diseases. By understanding the pathogenesis of poor developmental outcomes, using congenital Zika virus infection as a model, preventative strategies could be developed for future epidemics affecting fetal brain development. Additionally, I am interested in tools for screening and diagnosing neurodevelopmental conditions through telehealth. This method could be valuable in delivering care, especially when environmental factors such as underserved areas, mobility issues, and financial constraints impede healthcare access for patients with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
