Heidi Harmon, MD

Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics
Biography

My career as a neonatologist has focused on the developmental follow-up of high-risk neonatal populations for both clinical and research purposes and aligns with the mission of Hawk-IDDRC. My primary research interest focuses on the identification of risk factors (biologic and socioeconomic) of abnormal intellectual and motor development after extreme
prematurity (born at <27 weeks gestational age).  I am also the site Follow-up PI at UI for the NICHD Neonatal Research Network (a multicenter trials network including long-term neurodevelopmental follow-up) where I assess the neurodevelopmental outcomes for toddlers and school-age children after participation in NICU based interventional trials.  I am also involved in several collaborative projects through my role as the co-director of the UI NeuroNICU and Medical Director of High Risk Follow-up Clinic focusing on risk assessment and intervention to improve developmental outcomes after brain injury and prematurity.
