Md Rakibul Mowla, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Scholar, Neurosurgery
Biography

My primary research areas are analyzing and understanding neural signals using signal processing and machine learning techniques. As part of my doctoral dissertation, I have worked on various applications of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) using electroencephalography (EEG) (e.g., spelling tasks using scalp EEG, and emotion recognition from brain signals). BCIs have immense potential to restore communication and control to patients with severe motor disabilities.

Here, at the University of Iowa-Human Brain Research Lab (HBRL), I am working with Brian Dlouhy, MD, to indentify the neural network of breathing to better understand how breathing is inhibited during seizures.
